Located on Grand Avenue just west of downtown, Dunn's is the most historic of the funeral homes we own & operate, having commenced business in 1913 and operating in it's present location since 1926. Our founder, Charles Iles, acquired Dunn's from the family of LeRoy Dunn in 1978. Perhaps one of the most beautiful funeral homes in the State of Iowa, Dunn's uniquely combines elegant architecture and furnishings with state of the art video and sound systems.
Dunn's is large and spacious and includes a central atrium able to accommodate comfortable serving of refreshments and catered food. Dunn's is the location of our crematory facility and is a pioneer in knowledge of cremation services. Dunn's is convenient to much of Des Moines because of its central location and access to the newly reconstructed Martin Luther King bypass. Dunn's has ample adjacent parking and handicapped accessibility.
Grant Wood was introduced to LeRoy Dunn shortly after Dunn’s Funeral Home moved to it’s current location. LeRoy commissioned Grant Wood to paint a portrait of the funeral home's atrium fountain. He also painted the Soldiers and Sailors Monument on the capitol grounds and a landscape of a home in the River Bend area. The original works have been donated to the Des Moines Art Center, and replicas hang in the Library at Dunn’s Funeral Home.
