The life and love of George Pickett Wilson III will be celebrated and remembered on Friday, April 9, 2004 at Dunn's Funeral Home between 4 and 7 p.m. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, April 10, 2004 at Plymouth Congregational Church at 10 a.m. Pick Wilson passed away of natural causes on Sunday, April 4, 2004 while in Atlanta, Georgia.

Pick was born the son of George and Margaret (Pod) Wilson, August 10, 1946 in Greensboro, North Carolina. He graduated from Iowa State University in 1971. Following graduation he worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation where he spearheaded the Great River Road project. Shortly thereafter, Pick served as Administrative Assistant to Governor Robert D. Ray for education and transportation for the state of Iowa. He then worked as an executive officer for BAAI and Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield before joining Kaiser Permanente in Atlanta, Georgia in 2000. Pick dutifully served the Iowa community as a board member for the Des Moines Public Schools system, as well as the Iowa State Board of Education, the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation and the Iowa Games Board.

Pick is survived by his wife, Rena and their four children, Katherine Brown (Christopher), Robert, Christopher and Edward. He is also survived by his parents, George and Margaret (Pod) Wilson as well as six siblings, Anne Grande (Denis), Edward (Dee), Robert (Janet), Thomas (Susan), Helen Chason (Craig) and James (Janet). Additionally, he leaves his love with 13 nieces and nephews, two grand-nephews and many intimate friends.

Pick spent countless hours with friends on the golf course and endless days in the sun with family at their beach cottage in North Carolina, making those places special forever for those enjoyed them with him. Memorial contributions may be made to The Roosevelt Foundation, 4419 Center St., Des Moines, Iowa 50312, for the Pick Wilson Soccer Scholarship fund, which can later qualify for certain additional matching contributions.
