Jack Kenneth Fleming, 98, passed away on Tuesday, April 3, 2007, at Kavanagh Hospice House in West Des Moines. According to Jack's wishes, the body has been donated to the Des Moines University Osteopathic Department for medical science research. In two months, a memorial service honoring Jack's life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 16, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, located at 2926 Beaver Avenue in Des Moines. Private committal services will take place at a later date.
Jack was born on July 27, 1908, in Sioux City, Iowa to John A. and Mary Elizabeth Tully Fleming. He was a navy veteran of World War II, a member of St. Vincent De Paul Society, and a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Jack was a 30-year retiree of Younkers Store for Homes as Manager of the Contract Division.
He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 27 years, Martha Fleming of Des Moines; son, Michael Fleming of Naples, FL; one step daughter; three grandsons; one granddaughter; three step-grandsons; two great-grandsons; and numerous cousins. Jack was preceded in death by his parents.
Following the memorial service, the family will greet friends at a luncheon held in the church Fellowship Hall. The family has respectfully requested that memorials be made to The Holy Trinity Foundation.
