Robert "Ryan" Dennis, 30, passed from this life on Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa. Throughout his life, Ryan was a very loving and giving person. In agreement with his utmost desire and wishes, Ryan was an organ donor with the Iowa Donor Network to help benefit the lives of others.
The family will greet friends from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 14, at Iles Funeral Homes, Westover Chapel in Des Moines. Funeral services for Ryan will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, April 15, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Sunny Hill Cemetery, in Grimes.
Ryan was born on October 31, 1982, in Des Moines, Iowa to Robert "Mike" and Kevin Sue (Berke) Dennis. He was a 2001 graduate of Valley High School in West Des Moines. Ryan had attended both DMACC and Iowa State University. He was a member of the Delta Lambda Phi Fraternity; the Spanish Club in H.S. and DMACC; and the Young Democrats at Valley High. Ryan enjoyed spending time volunteering at numerous activities within the Democratic Party and studying taikwando, of which he earned a black belt. In 2006, he managed the reception tent for the Asian Food Festival in Des Moines. Ryan was also very fluent in Spanish and French and was learning Mandarin Chinese as well. He had traveled all over the world including France, China, Germany, England and two trips to Spain.
He is survived and lovingly remembered by his parents, Mike and Kevin Dennis of Urbandale; brother, Chris M. Dennis also of Urbandale; two paternal aunts, Pat Palmer of Indianola and Deanne (Gary) Johnson of Broomfield, CO; two maternal uncles, Kurt (Bill Dodd) Berke of West Des Moines, IA and Kelly T. Berke of Des Moines, paternal uncle, Harry (Liz) Dennis of Virginia Beach, VA; and a host of many cousins and friends. Ryan was preceded into eternal life by his maternal and paternal grandparents.
