Wayne Lee LaFontaine, 82, passed from this life on Friday, January 18, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. The body has been cremated and a memorial visitation will be held 5 - 7 p.m. Monday, January 21, at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel.
Wayne was born on September 8, 1930, in Rockford, Illinois to John and Myrtle LaFontaine. Wayne served in the U.S. Army in the 101st Airborne as a paratrooper. He married Ann Anderson and they made their home in Urbandale. Wayne was employed in the Commercial Well Drilling industry for over 50 years, having worked with Thorpe Well, Layne Western, Inc. and Northway Well and Pump Co., retiring in 2000.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Ann LaFontaine, his children Mary Beth Ellis of Delta Junction, AK, Robert (Kim) LaFontaine of Waukee, Georgann LaFontaine of Madison, WI, Kenneth (Deb) LaFontaine of Rockford, IL, and Roger LaFontaine and Larry LaFontaine, both of Evansville, IN; his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his siblings, Jerry LaFontaine of Florida, Nancy (Charles) Layng of Rockford, IL, and Barbara (Martin) Windemuth of California. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Steven, his son-in-law Butch Ellis, brothers, Russell and John and sisters, Eudora and Wanda.
