Known to his friends as "Mac", he was born to Sam and Mamie McFerron on April 4, 1924. At the age of 16 he made his decision for Christ.

God called Mac into the ministry during WWII while serving in the army. Returning to Miami, OK in 1946, Mac began planting and pastoring churches in Oklahoma and Missouri. At Southwest Baptist College, he met Betty Jo, his wife of 30 years. In 1960, answering the call to pioneer missions, Mac pastored Immanuel Baptist Church, Waterloo, IA for 22 years. He also pastored churches in Indianola and Marshalltown. After the passing of Betty Jo in 1979, he married Irene Waller in 1981.

A servant of Christ and the Christian community, Mac was a pioneer helping bring Southern Baptist work to the state of Iowa serving on numerous state and associational committees, including 2 terms as President of the Iowa Southern Baptist Fellowship.

A supporter of education, Mac was co-founder of the Iowa Baptist Foundation starting a student scholarship fund. He organized the Iowa Campers on Mission, the Southwestern Seminary Alumni of Iowa, and the first State Evangelism Conference among others.

A man of prayer, Mac loved praying with others initiating worship and prayer time in private and public gatherings. His final ministry was praying weekly with 12 different men over the phone. In the front of his favorite Bible he wrote, "May I never rob God of His glory."
