Obituary

Gayla D. Marshall, 65, of Des Moines, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 17, 2017. Family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 23 at Iles Grandview Park Chapel. A Celebration of Life service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, March 24 at Grandview Park Chapel followed by a 3:30 p.m. Graveside Service at Liberty Center Cemetery in Liberty Center.

Gayla was born June 28, 1951 to Myron and Chloris Haas. She grew up in Liberty Center, Iowa. She graduated from Southeast Warren High School in 1969. She attended Faith Baptist Bible College before transferring to Des Moines Area Community College to complete her nursing degree in 1974.

Gayla married Robert Marshall June 11, 1977 in Des Moines, Iowa. Together they raised 3 girls who then gave them 4 granddaughters and 2 grandsons.

Gayla worked as Nurse for Broadlawns Emergency Room for 2 years. She then worked at Allergy Institute PC for over 20 years.

Gayla loved spending time on the beaches in Florida. Sewing for her granddaughters was a hobby she enjoyed. She was always on the lookout for sports memorabilia for her grandsons. She blessed several people with blankets and warmers that she hand made. Gayla was always readily available to lend a helping hand or lift someone up in prayer.

Gayla is survived by her husband, Robert "Bob"; daughters, Kelli (Chris) Turpin of Rincon, Georgia, Tiffany Marshall of Des Moines and Angela Eakins of Des Moines; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Grace, Alexis, Jordon, and Caleb; her mother, Chloris Haas of Liberty Center; her brother, Ron (Cynthia) Haas of Grand Rapids, Michigan; four nephews and two nieces.

Gayla was preceded in death by her father, Myron Haas.

The family would like to thank Dr. Bradley Lair, M.D., Julie Schuck, ARNP, Matt Roberts, RN and the exceptional staff of the Broadlawns Oncology Unit for the compassionate and quality care they gave to her for the past ten years.
