Obituary

John D. Riseley passed away on August 10th at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. John was born in Marysville, IA on December 18, 1937 to Dwight and Ruby Riseley. John graduated from Lovilia High School in 1956 and soon after joined the army as an equipment mechanical engineer. He retired from John Deere in 1998 after 30 years of employment. He was a proud member of the UAW Local 450, acted on behalf of John Deere as the loaned executive for the United Way in 1979 and 1995 and received the Governor’s Volunteer Award in 2008. For 6 years he was also a drug and alcohol liaison for John Deere. While employed at John Deere he went on to earn his Associates degree from DMACC in Drug and Alcohol counseling and fondly recalled that the best thing he learned in college was to clean up his language. John had 43 years of continuous sobriety and loved the AA program.
John married Lorraine in 1984 and they had 33 wonderful years together. They travelled extensively including a trip to Ireland where redheads feel right at home and made the long drive to Maine on many occasions. John never missed an opportunity to watch his grandchildren play ball and was his grandsons’ biggest cheerleader. An avid Hawkeye, Chicago Cubs and Bears fan he loved Sunday afternoons in front of the TV.
John is survived by his wife Lorraine, siblings, Emory (Darlene) and Roy (Theresa ), his former wife Roberta, children Doug (Glynnis) Riseley , Brenda Riseley, Jenny (Roger) Bauer and Katy (Eddie) Polich and grandchildren David Bottino, Edgar Bauer, and Gabriel Polich.
Preceding him in death were his parents.
