Obituary

Marilyn Joan Davis, 83, passed away peacefully in her home in Des Moines, Iowa, on Friday, September 1, 2017. A Memorial Service will be held at Central Presbyterian Church in Des Moines, Iowa, on September 19th at 11 am.
Marilyn was born on November 20, 1933, in Glenwood, Iowa, to Leslie Robert and Evelyn Buffington Pippitt and was the oldest of three children.

She was an avid gardener, loved a challenging game of bridge, enjoyed college football (in particular the Iowa Hawkeyes) and entertaining a wide circle of friends.

Over the years, she served the community volunteering through various civic and philanthropic organizations such as PEO Chapter HF, Des Moines Symphony Guild, and the Herb Study Group. She was most proud of her work with the Herb Study Group to help secure funds and guide the commissioning of an original sculpture for the Greater Des Moines Botanical Gardens.

Marilyn was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who treasured experiences with family and friends and always put others before herself. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Stan, daughter, Becky and husband Michael Craft, grandchildren Hunter and Meredith Craft, son John and wife Lauren Holderness, sister-in-law Deloma Pippitt and brother-in-law Bill Drake. “Aunt Ninny” will also be missed by nephews Bill (Rachel), Chuck (Sally), John (Beth), and Rob (Tania) Drake, and nieces Shawn (Scott) Hollis and Chri (Duke) Pope.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Margaret Drake of Williamsburg, Virginia, and brother, Charles Pippitt of Littleton, Colorado.

Friends are welcome to join the family for a Celebration of Life luncheon at the Wakonda Country Club from 12 - 2 pm on September 19th. A private interment is planned.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Marilyn’s memory to Central Presbyterian Church or the Greater Des Moines Botanical Gardens. Online condolences may be shared at IlesCares.com.
