Richard Holm, 84, passed away Thursday, September 14, 2017 at Hospice of Marion County in Ocala, Florida surrounded by his family. Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday at Story City Municipal Cemetery in Story City, IA.

Dick was born May 24, 1933, in Story City, IA to Torbjorn and Ethel (Olson) Holm. He grew up in Story City and graduated from Story City High School in 1951. Dick was an Army veteran who received top awards.

Dick married Ramona J. West on July 1, 1956. They just celebrated 61 years and Ramona was truly the love of his life. Dick and Ramona had one daughter, Kristin.

Dick obtained his Associates Degree from Waldorf College in 1953 and was then drafted to the Army from 1954-1956 at Carswell Airforce Base in Fort Worth, TX.

After the army, Dick returned to college at Drake University and obtained his B.A. degree in Business Administration with a minor in Accounting and later obtained his M.A. Degree in Education also from Drake. He spent his career in education and business. Of all of his working career, his favorite was the years he coached football.

Dick loved to sing and was gifted with the most beautiful bass voice. He was in a quintet while in the Army and also a proud member of the Waldorf College Choir and Senior Choir at Zion Lutheran Church. He was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church, Waldorf Alumni, and the Izaak Walton League in Des Moines until relocating to Ocala, FL to be with family.

With Christ being the center of his life Dick treasured his time with his family the most. His greatest joy was watching the grandkids in all sports and school activities. He also enjoyed fishing, trips to Colorado and California to visit family, college basketball and football and any choir concert he could attend.

Dick was predeceased by his parents and brother, Thomas Holm. He is survived by his loving wife, Ramona, daughter, Kristin (Eric) Hauge and grandchildren Austin Bowen, Alyson Bowen and Brandon Hauge; brother, Jerry (Orpha) Holm, sister-in-law, Bonnie Holm, brother-in-law, Howard (Gloria) West, nephews, John (Susan) Holm, Brad (Annie) Holm, Dan (Jennifer) Holm, Greg (Yolanda) Holm, Mark (Anne) West, Jeff (Annmarie) West; and many other family members.
