Obituary

Sandi Sue Paskins Nagel 72 years old, passed away on Monday, January 8, 2018 at Mercy Hospital.

She was born on November 7, 1945 in Pueblo, CO where she spent the first three months of her life in an orphanage being cared for by nuns. She was adopted by Chuck and Mayme Paskins who resided in Des Moines, IA and grew up on Sherman Blvd with a pony, a big horse and lots of chickens.

Sandi graduated from North High School and Drake University in Des Moines. She married Richard Nagel and moved to Youngstown, OH. They had three children together, Kim, Missy and Rich.

Moving back to Iowa in the early 80’s, Sandi began working for Camp Fire where she made many lifelong friends; she fully embraced the values of WoHeLo, which stands for Work, Health & Love. Her children spent lots of time at Camp Hantesa in Boone, IA learning how to build a roaring bonfire, grill up amazing foil packets and belt out songs about Peanut Butter & Jelly and Baby Jaws. Sandi also worked as an Admissions Counselor at both Grandview University and Mercy College of Health Science.

During her retirement, Sandi loved spending time with her seven, yes seven, grandsons and her new granddaughter who was born in August of this year. She got to spend four months in California with Rich and his family this summer and was hoping to split her time between Iowa and California to be able to help both Missy and Rich juggle the care and activity schedules of their kids. Sandi spent countless weekends watching and ferrying her grandsons to soccer and baseball games; often spending the entire day at the fields. She also dearly loved all the dogs and cats she rescued over the years. Sandi was often the live in nanny for her granddogs and grandcat at Kim’s house.

Sandi is survived by her sister Barbara Wise, her brother Dennis Hulen and niece Jyl Harms. Her children Kim Card (Stu), Missy Brazeau (Daryl) Rich Nagel (Ann Marie) and the joys of her life - her grandchildren, Conner, Beau, Brock, Ryatt, Crew, Reid, Rohm and Kenner.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 13, 2018 at St. John’s Lutheran Church followed by a luncheon in the church fellowship hall. Burial will be at the Mason Cemetery in Des Moines.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Camp Hantesa. Checks can be sent to 1450 Oriole Rd, Boone, IA 50036 or go to www.campfireiowa.configio.com. Please note Hantesa - Sandi Nagel memorial in the memo or in the comments section.
