Obituary

Robert “Bob” Crigler, 64, left this world unexpectedly Wednesday, April 11, 2018 surrounded by loved ones. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, April 18th at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Des Moines, Iowa, at 2 pm.

Bob was born October 6, 1953, in Des Moines, IA, to Wayne and Beulah (Williams) Crigler. He grew up and lived most of his life on the South Side of Des Moines; graduating from Lincoln High School. He continued his education and earned his Master’s Degree from University of Iowa.

To know Bob was to truly love him. His was genuinely kind, caring and patient. These traits were evident in all aspects of his life. It is no wonder that he chose a career in Social Work; the last 20+ years of which were at Iowa Methodist & Iowa Lutheran hospitals. He extended the same care & compassion to his patients & their families as he did to his friends and family. Although he was the youngest of his siblings, he was the voice of reason and caregiver for all; especially for his mother, for whom he had a special bond and for whom he made providing and caring for a top priority. This selfless caring ascended though his life all the way to his last act of compassion as an organ donor.

While Bob was reserved, often quiet and a wonderful listener, he was also active and adventurous. He enjoyed a variety of physical activities including walking, biking & running and was always up for trying new things. He was a lover of art & antiques and one of his favorite pastimes was hunting for new treasures with friends; he also had a compassion for animals, especially his own furry family members.

Bob is survived by his sisters, Cathy LeClair of Des Moines, IA, and Connie (Rick) Hodges of Waukee, IA; his beloved cats, Basel and Damen; as well as many nieces and nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; life partner, John Marshall; brother-in-law, Jim LeClair; and brother, Bill Crigler.

The family will receive friends from 4 - 6 pm Wednesday, April 18th, at Dunn's Funeral Home in Des Moines with a Time of Reflection beginning at 5 pm. They would like to extend their gratitude to the staff and volunteers of the Methodist Critical Care Unit for their care and support through this difficult time.

Memorial contributions may be made to Animal Lifeline or Taylor House.
