Mildred Arlene Hollister Christiansen, passed away Monday, May 14, 2018 at her home in Des Moines. Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 21, 2018 at Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines; burial will be at a later date in Crawford Heights Memorial Gardens in Denison, IA

Millie was born February 10, 1932 in Rodney, Monona County, Iowa the daughter of Leonard Joseph Hollister and Elsie Ethel Myers Hollister. She attended various rural schools, graduating in May, 1949 from Denison-Crawford County High School. Millie worked at Miller’s Abstract. She married Dale D. Christiansen on February 18, 1951 at the First Presbyterian Church in Denison. The following year the couple moved to Oklahoma and later to Texas where Dale was stationed in the U.S. Air Force. In 1955 they moved back to Iowa and started farming. They farmed and Millie worked in Denison at the abstract office and at the Crawford County Extension Service. In 1962 they moved to Fort Dodge where they worked for Iowa Beef.

In May, 1964 they were blessed with a son, Dana. At that time Millie became a stay at home Mom and housewife. In March 1966 they were again blessed with a son, Daryn, and Millie continued to be an at home Mom and housewife. She did venture out bowling once a week. Millie attended Church Circle, plus helped with the nursery at church.

In 1970 they moved to Glenwood where the boys attended school. Millie then went back into the work force. She enjoyed all of the sports the boys participated in and attending two different games in one evening.
In 1998 Millie retired from Century-21 and they moved to Des Moines to be closer to their grandsons and be able to watch them grow up and take in their sporting activities. Millie began working at WalMart with Dale in 1999 and remained there until 2016.

Millie liked to travel and did so mostly to Washington State where again it was to be able to watch her grandsons play in sports. Being able to visit all 50 states was one of her proudest accomplishments. She was devoted to the four grandsons and enjoyed all they did. Millie also enjoyed playing cards and eating out with friends.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Dana (Barbara) of Urbandale and Daryn (Kristina) of Enumclaw, WA; grandson, Zach (Michelle Boylan), Drew (Ashley), Jacob and Gabe (Jessica); sisters, Pam (Bob) Naylor, Joanne Ferstl, and Bev (Al) Fagan; in-laws, Beverly Hammer and Bonard Christiansen and numerous nieces and nephews.
