Obituary

Addie S. Royer, daughter of Stephen Riley Kesler and Barbara Ellen Jamison Kesler, passed away Friday, April 6, 2012 at Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, April 16, 2012, at the Dunkard Brethren Church in Dallas Center where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Brethren Cemetery.

Addie was born in Quinter, Kansas on June 12, 1906. She was the second youngest of six children, two boys and four girls. On November 12, 1936, she was united in marriage to Orville Jesse Royer of Dallas Center. To this union was born one son, Dwight Royer of Clinton, Iowa. They established their home on a farm north of Dallas Center. Addie enjoyed gardening, canning, babysitting and giving a helping hand to others. In 1963, they moved from the farm to Dallas Center. Orville passed away in 1972. In 1989, Addie lost her eyesight and moved in with her sister, Sadie Handsacker, also of Dallas Center. Addie continued to crochet by feel, making doilies out of yarn rather than thread. She made over 300 doilies to give away to family and friends. She also liked to play SkipBo and would often talk visitors into a game or two. In 2003, Addie and Sadie moved to Spurgeon Manor where she was active in worship services, exercise, coffee club and bingo.

Addie was a charter member of the Quinter Kansas Dunkard Brethren Church. Her faith has been the cornerstone of her life, often saying "the Lord has been so good to me."

Addie was preceded in death by her parents and all of her siblings. She is survived by her son Dwight and his wife Penny Royer, three grandsons and their wives, Todd and Christan of Ellettsville, Indiana; Eric and Tina and great-grandchildren Addie, Max and Ben of LeClaire, Iowa; and Ryan and Jen and great-grandchildren, Daniel, Lizzie and Katie of Elkader, Iowa, and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Dunkard Brethren Church or Spurgeon Manor. Online condolences will be welcomed at IlesCares.com.
