Agnes Delury Finnegan, age 97, passed peacefully from this life on Friday, January 28, 2011 at Mercy Westlake Hospital in West Des Moines. A celebration of Agnes' life will be celebrated Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, where the family will greet friends one hour prior to the service.

Agnes was born on a farm near Prairie du Chein, Wisconsin on July 8, 1913. She married Marcellus Finnegan of Marquette, Iowa in 1935 and moved to Des Moines in 1941. Agnes was very active in her church. She belonged to Catholic Women's League, Mercy Hospital Guild, Bishop Drumm Guild, Catholic Daughters and Holy Trinity Women's Club. She was an active member of St. John's Catholic Church of Des Moines for over 25 years before moving to Holy Trinity's Parish.

Agnes was a very outgoing person; loved social events and just "visiting" with friends and family. Her church and her family were the most important things in her life. As a homemaker, Agnes loved to cook and could whip up a pot roast and gravy no daughter or daughter-in-law could ever match. Her yard and her garden were her pride and joy, especially her flowers and her tomatoes. Agnes learned to play bridge late in life and enjoyed card parties with her friends.

Agnes is survived by her son Dale (Judy) Finnegan of Iowa Falls; daughters Sharon Dee of Des Moines; Mary Jane (Larry) Straub of Islip, New York; and her daughter-in-law Donna Finnegan of Mission Viejo, California; 15 grandchildren, Ginger, Dean and Rusty, Shawn, Michael, Kelly, Erin, Michael, Betsy, Katie, Susie, Beth, Melissa, Jamie and Kevin; and 33 great-grandchildren.

Agnes was preceded in death by her husband, Marcellus; son, Dean Finnegan; son-in-law, Bob Dee; four brothers, Roy, Lloyd, George and Leo; a sister, Evelyn; and her parents, James and Agnes Delury.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Bishop Drumm, Holy Trinity Church or Food for the Poor.
