Alan Dean Robbins "Big Al" passed on to eternal life at the age of 63, on June 28, 2021, at Fleur Care Center, Des Moines, Iowa.

He was born October 19, 1957, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, to Harold and Gladys (Johnson) Robbins and was baptized and confirmed at Augustana Lutheran Church, Manson, Iowa. He graduated from Manson High School in 1976, participating in baseball, basketball, band, chorus, and swing choir.

He enlisted in the US Navy after graduation, serving from 1976-1986 on the USS Puffer, USS Benjamin Stoddard, and USS Worden. He was stationed in Orlando, FL; San Diego, CA; Mare Island, CA; Groton, CT; Bremerton, WA; and Pearl Harbor, Oahu, HI.

In his later years, he earned a degree from Grandview College, graduating as a member of Alpha Chi National College Honor Society, Alpha Sigma Lambda.

If Big Al wasn't watching NASCAR, baseball, football, or meeting his buddies at a local pub, he watched the weather channel and could always tell you what was going to happen and where. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan, KC Chiefs fan and Minnesota Twins fan.

Alan fought a courageous 3-year battle with cancer. His bravery during his illness was not only admirable, but commendable. Alan was employed by Conduent before retiring due to his health.

He enjoyed life to the fullest and appreciated his many blessings. Alan was very proud of his family and enjoyed spending time with his daughters and grandchildren.

Survivors include his daughters, Nohelani Salisbury, Urbandale, and Merica Robbins, Des Moines; Mihaina, his exwife, who remained a close friend; 8 grandchildren; and sisters Mary (Dennis) Peters, Ankeny, and Joyce Hite, Manson. Preceding him in death were his parents and an infant sister.

A Celebration of His Life will be held at the Urbandale Senior Community Center, 7305 NW Aurora Ave. Urbandale on Saturday, July, 17th, 2021 from 3-6 p.m.
