Albert Huston "Hugh" Iverson Jr., 71, passed away on October 7th, 2010 at the Mercy Hospice in Johnston of cancer. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Monday at Dunn's Funeral Home in Des Moines.

Hugh was born on January 27th, 1939 in Aberdeen, SD. Hugh attended Roosevelt High School, the University of Iowa and Drake. He was an active fundraiser for both Variety Club of Iowa, and the Ronald McDonald House. As part of his career in the insurance industry, he was past President of the Des Moines Area Association of Health Underwriters. He also lobbied on behalf of insurance and health care issues, and was part of a Medicare forum hosted by President George W. Bush. The feedback obtained during this forum lead to the Medicare Modernization Act of 2003. Hugh was present for the signing ceremony and acknowledged by President Bush during the speech.

Hugh is survived by a son, Hugh Iverson III of Chicago, and two brothers, Yale Iverson of Des Moines and Thor Iverson of Clive. He was preceded in passing by a daughter, Amy Iverson, and by his parents, Albert H Iverson Sr., and Mary Kay Iverson.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Variety Club of Iowa, or the Ronald McDonald House of Central Iowa.

Hugh will always be remembered as a loving and loyal father, brother, and friend.
