Obituary

Alice Elizabeth Bodnar passed away on November 14, 2013 at Iowa Methodist Hospital after a valiant fight against cancer. Alice was born July 9, 1953 in Davenport, Iowa to Sofia and Walter Bodnar.

Alice's entire life was devoted to music on both violin and piano. Alice graduated from Drake University with double degrees in Violin Performance and Education. She completed her Master's Degree in Violin Performance from Boston University under Joseph Silverstein.

When Alice returned to Des Moines she served as a member of the 1st violin section of the Des Moines Symphony for the last twenty years. She also performed with the Des Moines Metro Opera as Principal 2nd violin. She was a member of the Pioneer String Quartet from 1991-1995. She also taught violin lessons in her home studio.

Alice is survived by her mother, Sofia, her brother, Ed (Diane) Bodnar, one nephew, Josh (Olivia) Bodnar of Los Angeles, one niece, Natalie (Brad) Haigh of Denver and two great nieces, Noelle Bodnar and Aven Haigh. She was preceeded in death by her father, Walter Bodnar.

It was Alice's wish for all memorials to go to The American Cancer Society or the Des Moines Symphony.
