Alma Katherine Rieger, 82, passed away on Friday, May 4, 2007 at Hospice Kavanagh House in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 8, at Iles Funeral Homes – Westover Chapel in Des Moines. Burial will follow at Masonic Cemetery in Des Moines.

Alma was born on September 18, 1924 in Des Moines, Iowa to Frank A. and Florence McGinnis Likes. She married Harold C. Rieger on July 20, 1947 in Des Moines, where they made their home. Alma was a Charter member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church and past Noble Grand of Columbia Rebecca Lodge. She was also a member of Daughters of the Nile and the Stewardess Club of Highland Park. She was an avid and loyal fan of the Chicago Cubs, Iowa Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes. Alma and Harold loved to travel and enjoyed spending their winters in Phoenix, Arizona for 23 years. Alma was a loving, caring and devoted wife, mother and grandmother; she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her husband, Harold Rieger of Des Moines; one son, Dennis L. (Lory) Rieger of Pleasant Hill, IA; two stepsons, George H. (Diana) Rieger of Knoxville, TN and Donald R. Rieger of West Des Moines; one sister, Vernie Wood of Des Moines; one brother, William Smith also of Des Moines; 12 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. Alma was preceded in death by her parents and four sisters.

Visitation will be held after 3 p.m. on Monday, May 7, at the funeral home, where the family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Des Moines.
