Captain Amos Nelson, 28, passed away Friday from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. Amos was born September 25, 1977. He was currently serving his country as Military Police in the Army and had done so for the last 11 years with one tour in Iraq.

He was a proud and active member of the American Legion Riders Chapter 7 and the American Legion Post 663 Urbandale. His hobbies included riding his Harleys, defending his country and loving his wife.

Amos is survived by his loving wife, Mandy; his son, Tyler; parents, Dave and Ann Nelson and Doyle and Lorraine Uitermark; sister, Tara; half-brother, Jacob; and half-sister, Samantha; step-sister, Meggan Reynolds; grandparents, Daryl and Maxine Thomason, and Iva Nelson; along with many friends and relatives.

Amos took with him an unwavering love for his wife, family and country. He will be missed forever by everyone whose life he touched.

The family will receive friends for visitation Monday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Sundberg-Kirkpatrick Funeral Home. Services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with burial to follow at Mt. Hope cemetery in Madrid.
