Obituary

Angela “Angi” Dawn Fields, 45, died February 13, 2021, in Des Moines, Iowa. Daughter of Esther Streed-Johnson and Lowell Fields, Angi was born in Ida Grove, Iowa, on March 23, 1975. Angi graduated from Storm Lake High School in 1994. While in high school, she took pride in being the manager of the girls basketball team.

Angi was outgoing and welcoming to everyone she met, and boy, was she a talker. Angi used her unique set of disabilities to advocate for others with disabilities and their families. Her proudest moment was her participation in the creation of the Americans with Disabilities Act. She spoke at rallies and was a keynote speaker at the celebration in Des Moines of its passage. She leaves a legacy of spreading love and acceptance of all.

Angi was an active member of the Des Moines Mennonite Church and loved God. In her church Lenten devotional, Angi wrote “God will love us all the time. He will not dis-love us. I am glad for God’s love”. She participated in the day program at Link for many years and enjoyed volunteering, especially at Many Hands Thrift Shop in Grimes. Angi was an avid Iowa State fan and didn’t want to wear black in case someone thought she was a Hawkeye! She loved music -- especially country -- and visiting historical sites. She traveled extensively across the United States to visit family and see the sites, such as Nashville and Washington, DC.

The family would like to thank all the dedicated service providers from Link and REM that she had over the years, especially Susan.

Angi loved her family most of all. She is survived by her mother Esther Streed-Johnson (Curt), her sister Renee Drottz (Mike), her sister Rachel Krier (Scott), her nephews and niece Isaiah Rigby, Jacob and Jessica Drottz; Aaron, Alicia and Anthony Krier; her cousin and best friend Stacey Nelson-Jones (Todd), her special sis Diane Jepsen, her family by choice Goodluck, Mary, Faraja, Shema; Carrie, Marco, Marcel, Josephina, Fabian, ArieElla; Tammy, Roger, Gwen; Mallory, Craig, Colton; 4 step siblings and their families, her longtime friend and roommate Deb Miller, many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends and 18 foster siblings. She was preceded in death by her father Lowell Fields, her maternal grandparents George and Annie Streed and Ralph and Elnora Streed, and her paternal grandparents Leona and Bradley Fields.

A private funeral service for Angi will be held and will be live streamed. A link to view the funeral service will appear at 11:45 a.m., Saturday, February 20, 2021 on Angi’s obituary page at www.IlesCares.com, where you may also leave online condolences.
