Obituary

Ann McCarter of Martensdale, IA departed this life on November 22nd, 2024, at the age of 91 years.

She was born August 15, 1933, in Mount Ayr, IA to Franklin and Iona Spurrier. She attended grade and high school in Mount Ayr, IA.

She was employed at Look magazine based in Des Moines, IA in her 20’s. Then she was employed at Hawkeye Security Insurance Company in Omaha, NE and Des Moines, IA for 19 ½ years. She was also employed by the State of Tennessee Department of Corrections as an Accounting Technician. In her retirement, she volunteered Monday through Friday at the Martensdale Meal Site.

In her life she enjoyed playing cards, especially winning, travelling with her family and friends, Tennessee Volunteer college football games, singing in the church choir, volunteering her time at the local meal site, craft shows with her daughter Kathy, many visits to the Bridges of Madison County, listening to Elvis, and playing the piano, organ and cornet.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Joann Severino of Des Moines, IA. Her survivors are daughter, Kathy Fast of St. Charles, IA. 5 grandchildren: Corrie (Eddie) Cook, Pat (Traci) Winn, Teresa (Ron Milligan) Winn, Lori (Darren) Crabb, Leslie (Kyle) Schroeder. 11 great grandchildren: Chelsea and Ashley Lewis, Makayla McGrew, Ali Crabb, Hannah and Nichole Coffey, Samantha and Sophia Winn, Logan Milligan, Hannah Blake, and Olivia Schroeder, and great great grandchildren as well. Also survived by her sister Ellen (Caroll) Huff and family in Albany, Oregon, niece and nephews and extended family and friends.

Her family would like to thank the staff in the Memory Care Unit at Valley View Village of Des Moines, IA and staff at Hospice of the Midwest for the outstanding care they provided.

Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. followed by her funeral at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 27 at Iles Norwalk Chapel with interment at Rose Hill Cemetery in Mount Ayr.
