Obituary

Our Mother, Bubie and Great-Bubie Annette Rothmann Siegel passed away surrounded by her loving family, July. 28, 2011, at HCI Kavanaugh House. A graveside service will be held 10 am today, Friday, July 29, 2011 at Jewish Glendale Cemetery.

Annette was born on August 1, 1924 to her beloved parents, Michael and Rifka Rothmann in Chicago, Illinois. Annette was fortunate to have grown up with an older brother, William. Annette's parents and brother preceded her in death. In September 1947 a sweet, handsome Air National Guard Pilot by the name of Sammy Siegel took her out in Chicago and on Halloween of that year they were engaged and married in January of 1948. Annette came to Des Moines as a bride where she resided for the remainder of her life. In 1950 to their delight a beautiful baby girl was born, Alyce and in 1954 their second adorable baby, Marlene was welcomed into the world.

Annette and Sammy started Home Plastics. Inc in 1957 which hand produced plastic slip covers. Soon the company was producing plastic bags and Annette was working alongside Sammy morning, noon and night, while at the same time taking care of her husband and daughters. With their hard work the business flourished. Annette eventually stayed home and became a full time housewife. She was a wonderful wife and mother catering to her husband and daughters. Annette and Sammy celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on January 18th, 2007. On February 1st. 2007 she lost the love of her life, her beloved Sammy.

She was an excellent cook and baker. She spoke fluent Yiddish and Hungarian and cooked and baked like a true Magyar (Hungarian) to the delight of all those that were treated to her delicious meals.

Annette was quite proud of her grandchildren, Michael Siegel (Marisa), Dr. Risa Siegel (Dr. Siatta Dunbar) and Mikey Siegel. And, totally thrilled when her great-grandsons Matan and Sagiv were born. And not to be forgotten, her beloved dog Kicsi.

Annette was a member of Beth El Jacob Synagogue, BEJ Sisterhood and DMG&CC.

Annette loved being with her family. She so enjoyed entertaining for family and friends. She also loved travelling throughout the world with her husband and on many occasions the entire family. She loved nature and flowers and enjoyed spending time outdoors.

We wish to thank Drs. Albert Mintzer and Craig Shadur for their years of care. A very special thank you to Dr. Laura Mirsky who never gave up in the last year and truly gave our Mother quality of life. Another special thank you to Iowa Methodist/Younkers 8th floor for all their caring and support that they extended to our entire family! Also, HCI Kavanaugh house for their caring, respect and guidance in the most difficult times.

Our wonderful Annette will be sorely missed, but she left a legacy of love, kindness, respect and caring that we shall always cherish and which shall be handed down through the generations!

Donations can be made to HCI or Beth El Jacob Synagogue.
