Obituary

Arlene Daugherty Piatt, 82, passed from this life on Friday, June 25, 2010, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. In agreement with Arlene's wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial service honoring Arlene's life will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, June 28, at First Christian Church in Adel of which she was member. The family will greet friends following the service. Private committal services will take place at Panther Creek Cemetery at a later date.

Arlene was born on April 20, 1928 in DeSoto, Iowa to Mark Edward and Clara (Kirscher) Daugherty. She married Mace A. Piatt on February 8, 1948 in Des Moines and their marriage was blessed with three sons, Mark, Barry and Tracy. Arlene was as a Supervisor in sales with Stanley Home Care Products. She also volunteered countless hours at Kavanagh House in Des Moines. Over the years, she provided transportation and homecare to a number of senior citizens in Des Moines and Dallas County. She was elected to and served in the Older Iowans Legislature in the 1980's. Arlene served her church in a variety of leadership capacities, including as an Elder and member of the Pastoral Search Committee.

She is survived and lovingly remembered by her sons, Mark (Sue) Piatt of Coon Rapids, MN, Barry Piatt of Silver Springs, MD and Tracy Piatt of Scottsdale, AZ; sister, Leona Walker of Waukee; brother, Eugene (Candie Ostrander) Daugherty of Adel; three grandchildren, Amber Piatt, Jeremy Piatt and Seth Piatt; and a host of extended family members. Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four brothers, Forrest L. "Jiggs" Daugherty, Francis Daugherty, Leo Daugherty and Darrell Daugherty; and one sister, Zelda Melton.

Memorial contributions may be made to either First Christian Church in Adel or Mercy Hospice in Johnston.
