Obituary

A. Arnold Johnson, 84, passed away on Thursday, October 28, 2004 at Heather Manor. He was a loving and compassionate husband, grandfather and friend. He was born on June 25, 1920 in Des Moines. As a young man, he started working for Iowa Airplane Company as an aircraft mechanic. Soon afterwards he began his home building career in the Des Moines area building several homes that still stand today. His passion for construction led to the establishment of Kitchen Center, Inc. of which Arnold was owner and president for over 20 years. Many kitchens in the central Iowa area proudly display his creative design including the Terrace Hill mansion.

Arnold was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, a Gideon, a member of Norden Swedish Singers and belonged to the Des Moines Men's Garden Club. He retired in 1986 and moved into Heather Manor in 1995.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Vera (Peggy) Johnson; his son, Jim Johnson of Carmel, IN; two grandchildren, Brad and Taylor; brother, Ed Johnson of Westlake Village, CA; and sisters, Doris Nickell of Irving, TX, and Betty McQuiston of Des Moines.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, November 1 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 3615 University Avenue, with graveside service to follow. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Westover Funeral Home on Hickman Road. He will be laid to rest at Resthaven Cemetery.
