Austin Hedlund Obituary

Austin Jacob Hedlund, 30, died Thursday, July 25, 2024, at his home in Des Moines. Austin was born on May 30, 1994, to Staci Dix (Kittell) and Wayne Hedlund in Des Mones, Iowa. Austin spent his entire life in the Des Moines area.

At a young age, he would ride his horse in the living room pretending to be his favorite “cowboy” Lane Frost. He went on many fishing and hunting trips with his Grandpa Dallas throughout his childhood. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends at cookouts and family get togethers. Austin’s greatest accomplishment in life was becoming a father to Irie. One of the many things we enjoyed about Austin was his contagious laugh. He always had a smile on his face. He was an avid chef in his own kitchen, especially with the curry dishes. Wagyu beef was another one of his favorite dishes to prepare.

Austin was preceded in death by his grandfather, Dallas Dix. He is survived by his daughter, Irie Hedlund and mother of daughter, Kayla Foreman; mother and stepfather, Staci and Jeff Kittell; father, Wayne Hedlund; maternal grandmother, Patsy Dix; sister, Lindsie Caculovic and her husband Jurica; brother Peyton Kittell; sister, Kayla Kittell; sister Karla Hahn and her husband Joel; paternal grandmother, Yvonne Frost; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Cremation has occurred, and no services will be held at this time. Friends and family will gather at a later date to celebrate his life. Memorial contributions may be directed to his daughter, Irie Hedlund (c/o Kayla Foreman or Staci Kittell).
