Obituary

Geneva Beatrice “Bea” Carlson, 93, passed from this life on Sunday, February 26, 2006, at Sunnyview Care Center in Ankeny. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, March 1, at Garden Prairie United Church of Christ, in rural Madrid. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery, east of Luther, Iowa.

Bea was born on October 6, 1912, in Earlham, Iowa, to John E. and Nancy June (Neff) Bechtel. She was a 1931 graduate of Earlham High School in Earlham, Iowa and attended Iowa Methodist Nursing School in Des Moines. Bea married Vern H. Carlson on March 10, 1934 in Atlantic, Iowa. She was formerly employed with the Madrid Home as a Licensed Practical Nurse for nearly 20 years, until she retired in 1974. Bea was a member of Garden Prairie United Church of Christ, where she was formerly active in the church circle. Her passion was quilting and sewing; Bea was an awesome seamstress.

She is survived and lovingly remembered by her three children, Donald G. Carlson and his wife Carol of Des Moines, Bonnie Bea Rolph and her husband Gordon of Kelley, IA and Bruce R. Carlson and his wife Kathryn also of Des Moines; 17 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. Bea was preceded into eternal life by her parents; husband, Vern H. Carlson on August 27, 1990; and her brother and sister.

Visitation will be after 5 p.m. on Tuesday, February 28, at Sundberg-Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Madrid, where the family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to Garden Prairie United Church of Christ.
