Begie Hefner Obituary

Begie Hefner, 89, died peacefully at her home on Wednesday, April 16, 2025. The family will receive friends 5-7 pm Wednesday, April 23rd at Iles Westover Chapel. Funeral services will be held 11 am Thursday, April 24th at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Begie was born January 19, 1936 in Des Moines to Glenn and Ida (Lane) Allen. She was a graduate of North High School and the University of Maine. Begie was a Buyer for Norman Cassidy and worked as a Style Show Coordinator, Commentator and Buyer for a number of years for Madeline Shepherd and Elegance by Kathy. In 1955 Begie married Robert Hefner, and to this union their son, Tom Hefner was born. Bob died in 1987. Later Begie married Fredric Miller and the couple lived happily together until Fred’s death in 2017.

Begie was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where she was active in the Westminster Choir, Prayer Chain since 1958, Bible Study, Hope Circle, Past President of the Women’s Association and served as an Elder and Deacon. Other memberships include the Des Moines Women’s Club, PEO Chapter LL and the Salvation Army Advisory Board. Begie loved the Arts and was an avid supporter of the Des Moines Symphony and Des Moines Community Playhouse. Begie enjoyed entertaining and travel, but her greatest joy was her family.

Survivors include her son, Tom (Erin) Hefner of Urbandale; step sons: Frederic (Jolene) Miller, Jr. of Florida and Bill Miller of Des Moines.

Begie was preceded in death by her husbands: Robert Hefner and Fredric Miller; and step son, David Miller.

Memorial contributions may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church Deacon’s Fund or the Salvation Army.
