Benjamin Morgan Kelly, 88, passed away Thursday, February 17, 2022, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Services will be held 10 AM Tuesday, February 22, at First Presbyterian Church in Dallas Center. The service will be livestreamed on the Iles website. Go to at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday and scroll to the bottom of Ben’s obituary to join in the service. Burial will follow at Brethren Cemetery near Dallas Center

Ben was born August 27, 1933, in Dallas Center, Iowa, to Joseph and Elsie (Morgan) Kelly. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. Ben married Frances Johnston in 1978 and they made their home on the farm in Waukee. They enjoyed spending time at Lake Panorama and the horse track at Prairie Meadows. He loved gardening, fishing, his race horses, cattle and attending Iowa State Football games. They could often be found attending their grandchildren’s activities. Ben and Fran were well known for hosting fish fries and card parties for their friends. For the last five years Ben has been loved and supported by his companion, Marilyn Hawbaker.

Ben was a member of the Dallas Center American Legion and the Dallas Center Coffee Club.

Ben is survived by his three sons, Joe (Lori) Kelly of Adel, IA, Benjamin (Denise) Kelly Jr. of Dallas Center, IA, and Stephen (Cynthia) Schoch of Marietta, GA; seven grandchildren, Benjamin "Jack" Kelly, Sean Kelly, Sara "Ashley" Soloman, Stephanie (Steve) Knoll, Jessie Soloman, Spencer Schoch, and Slater Schoch; two great-grandchildren, Connor Knoll and Wilma "Billie" Soloman; and his longtime companion, Marilyn Hawbaker. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Anne Kelly, his parents, and his sisters, Betty McClure and Jody McClure.

The family will receive friends from 5 - 7 p.m. Monday, February 21, at Iles Brandt Chapel in Dallas Center. Contributions may be made to the Iowa State University Livestock Judging, (checks to Iowa State University, c/o Mike Moore, Animal Science Dept. 1221 Kildee Hall, Ames, Iowa 50011-1178).
