Bernard G. "Buck" Klieman, 93, died Monday, June 21, 2010 at University Park Rehabilitation Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, June 25 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Pleasant Hill, IA.

Buck was born on January 22, 1917 in Oelwein, IA, the youngest of the five children of Bernard and Margaret (Haffner) Kleiman. He desired to serve his country during World War II but was unable to join the Army, so he worked in Greenland and Alaska dry cleaning military uniforms. After moving to Des Moines he joined Vawter and Walter Company in 1954 where he worked for the next 25 years as a union trucker and laborer, retiring in 1979.

As a devoted member of the St. Joseph Parish, Buck volunteered to visit the sick and deliver meals. He was also a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and Knights of Columbus.

Buck married Clara Edith Ray in 1950, and she preceded him in death in 1981. He is survived by his longtime, devoted companion, Elaine Campbell, many nieces and nephews, good friends and their families.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Iles Funeral Homes-Grandview Park Chapel where a vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church.
