Bernice was born August 16, 1926, on the family farm near Madrid to Ralph and Irene Palmquist Lundahl. She was raised in the Congregational Church in Madrid, now St. Paul's UCC. Bernice graduated from Luther High School in 1943 at the age of 16, and from Iowa State College in 1947 at the age of 20. Bernice worked for the Girls Scouts of America in Wichita, Kansas, Alton and Chicago, Illinois. She then attained her teaching certificate and taught in the Chicago Public Schools. Bernice married Webster Bay on June 17, 1972 at Garden Prairie Church, rural Madrid. They moved to Springfield, Illinois where Bernice worked for the Social Security Administration. Bernice enjoyed traveling and she and Web were able to winter in Ft. Myers for many years before making it their home year around. Bernice was a member of P.E.O., book club, and the Presbyterian Church.

Those left to cherish her memory include her brother, Willard Lundahl of Madrid, niece-in-law, Linda Ferguson of Sterling, CO, niece Ann (Gordon) Schott of Aurora, CO, nephew David (Jeri) Lundahl of Humeston, and niece Julie (Lance) Eybers of Sioux City as well as four great nieces, three great nephews, two great-great nieces and four great-great nephews. She was a blessing to us all.

Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, parents, her sister Betty Ferguson Janssen, and nephew, Al Ferguson.

The family would like to thank her faithful caregivers, Lori, Teresa, Diane, and Vicky for their loving care.
