Bette Boydston passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at home after a 2 ½ year battle with brain cancer. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 4, 2009 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Sundberg-Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Madrid. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2009 at 2:00 pm at the funeral home, with burial following at the Hillsdale Cemetery east of Madrid.

Bette was born August 25, 1954 to Clifford & Helen Jagerson of rural Madrid. She graduated from Madrid High School in 1972 and married Richard Cox later that year. To this union Tammy & Deanna were born. On July 28, 2002, Bette married Bob Boydston of Altoona.

Bette was member of Garden Prairie United Church of Christ near Madrid where she was baptized, and where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was also a member of the Garden Prairie Booster Circle. Bette was a member of various social circles with many of her friends, including Birthday Club with Sue & Terri, and her stitching group near Ames.

Bette enjoyed bowling, dancing, live music, antiquing, stitching, and events with her family and friends. She and Bob enjoyed traveling, wine tasting, picnics, photography and just being together.

Bette worked for Bankers Life earlier in her career, and later spent 27 years in the United Community and Gilbert School systems. She retired from Gilbert Community Schools earlier this year as secretary to the Superintendent.

Even during her illness, Bette was always positive and had a smile on her face. She was a role model for many.
