Betty Hurwitz Dubansky, 84, died Saturday, June 21, 2008 at the Iowa Jewish Senior Life Center, after a lengthy hospital stay at Mercy Medical Center following open heart surgery.

Funeral services will be 10am, Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at Tifereth Israel Synagogue of which Betty was a member. Burial will be at Jewish Glendale Cemetery.

Betty, a lifelong resident of Des Moines, was a graduate of North High School and attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. Betty worked in various accounting and bookkeeping positions throughout her life at the Veteran's Hospital, Lomar Wholesale Foods, and at Badower's Clothing Store.

Betty's other interests and involvement included having an active role in Hadassah Women's Charitable Organization, The Women's League at Tifereth Israel Synagogue, and serving on the Board of Directors for Iowa Jewish Senior Life Center for many years.

Betty is survived by her two children, Carol (Jeff) Mau, and Martin Swartz, both of Des Moines; four step-children, Diane Dubansky (Kenneth) Pratt of Norwalk, Robert (Peggy) Dubansky of Cumming, Andrea Dubansky (Barry) Nadler of Ames, Cindy Dubansky of Minneapolis, MN, step- daughter-in-law, Julie Dubansky of West Des Moines; brothers Louis (Marilyn) Hurwitz of West Des Moines, Jay Hurwitz of Chicago, Il; four grandchildren, Mollie and Zachary Martin and Adam and Leah Swartz; eight step grandchildren, Joshua Dubansky, Erin, Sarah, Ben Nadler, Jessie and Justin Pratt, and Jeremy and Gabrielle Dubansky.

Betty was preceded in death by her first husband, Melvin Swartz; her second husband, Marvin Dubansky, MD; her stepson Stephen Dubansky; parents Ben and Mary Hurwitz; and brother Richard Hurwitz.

Memorial contributions may be made to Tifereth Israel Synagogue or to the Iowa Jewish Senior Life Center.
