Obituary

Betty Jean Stanfield, 80, passed away on August 27, 2008 at Kavanagh House in West Des Moines.

Betty was born on September 3, 1927 in Prescott, IA. After graduating from Prescott High School, she moved to Des Moines where her first job was in the billing department at Twentieth Century Fox. She also enjoyed working as a teacher clerk at Woodrow Wilson Jr. High, and secretary at Amos Hiatt, Merrill, Callanan Junior High Schools and McKee Elementary School. Betty took great pride in her career as bookkeeper and office manager at Witt and Juckette Construction Company in Patricia Park, Urbandale for fourteen years.

Betty was a very active and devoted volunteer. She volunteered at the US West Pioneers Gift Shop, the Cardiac Department at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, New Hope United Methodist Church, Camp Fire USA, and served as secretary for the Retired CWA Local #7102 for four years.

Traveling, gardening, the performing arts, volunteer work, reading, and visiting with friends were favorite pastimes of Betty's. She also enjoyed meeting with the Iowa Polio Survivors Group for several years. But her greatest joy of all was gathering her whole family to celebrate holidays, birthday dinners, or just the chance to be together.

Those left to honor Betty's memory include her husband Tom Stanfield, daughter Linda Hennings, granddaughters Jill (Chris) Boom and Libby (Pete Schuster) Hennings, great-granddaughters Sienna and Callie, many extended family members, and FRIENDS. Betty was preceded in death by her son Tom Stanfield, Jr., parents Dale and Alice Wynn, sisters Lorraine Wilson and Phyllis Wynn, brothers Dale (Bud) Wynn, Jr. and Baby Ray Wynn, Jr. as well as many other beloved family members and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 6, 2008 at New Hope United Methodist Church, 4525 Beaver Avenue, Des Moines, IA. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, September 5, 2008 at Iles (Westover) Funeral Home, 6337 Hickman Road, Des Moines, IA.
