Betty L. Erickson, 97, passed from this life on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at Urbandale Health Care Center in Des Moines. The family will greet friends from 2 to 4 p.m., on Sunday, February 16, at Iles Westover Chapel in Des Moines. In agreement with her wishes, cremation rites will follow the visitation on Sunday. A memorial service celebrating Betty's life is being planned for later in four weeks at 11 a.m., on Saturday, March 15, at Iles Westover Chapel. Private family committal services will take place at a later date.

Betty was born on July 8, 1916, in Paton, Iowa to Raymond and Bessie (Burnett) Trafton. She was a graduate of Paton High School. Betty was united in marriage to Clyde Erickson and he preceded her in death in June of 1971. She was a member of Union Park Methodist Church. Betty loved decorating her home; cooking and entertaining for family and friends; and baking cookies to share with all she knew including her doctors. She also enjoyed crocheting and, of course, shopping.

She is survived and lovingly remembered by her children, Bill (Pat) Erickson of Mission Viejo, CA, Judy (Ralph) Swink of Grimes, Sue (Gene) Hyler of Polk City, and Cyndy (Alan Whitmarsh) Erickson of Des Moines; one brother, Forrest (Joan) Trafton of Colorado; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Betty was preceded in death by her parents; three grandchildren, Raymond Hyler, Stephen Swink and Cody Hayes; one sister, Ramona Wallace; and six brothers, Jack, Howard, Donald, Burnett, Charles and Robert Trafton.
