Betty Franz Obituary

Betty Lou Franz age 83, long time resident of Grimes, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday September 14,2023 at Taylor Hospice House in Des Moines.

Betty was born February 4, 1940, in Spickard Missouri to the late Leland and Hazel Tharp. She was the oldest of 3 children, her brother Junior preceded her in death and her baby sister Sue is left to carry on this generation of the family.

In 1950’s the family moved to Iowa. She graduated from Johnston High School in 1958. Betty married Harry Hyde (deceased) in 1958. They were blessed with 3 children, Elizabeth, Lindy, and Terry. A fatal accident took Harry from this world in 1969. She married Duane Franz (deceased) in 1977. With him came his children Natalie, Doug (deceased), Tony, and Tammy. And the blending of a family begins.

Betty has been preceded in death by many of her loved ones; her parents, brother, son-in-law, niece, nephew, stepson, 2 husbands and many other loved ones. She leaves behind her baby sister, children, stepchildren, nephew, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchild. For those of us left behind she will be greatly missed. For those that have proceeded her she will be welcomed home with open arms.

Per Betty’s wishes there will be a small family graveside service. For those of you who knew Betty and her love of family, friends, and sports, I ask that you help us celebrate her life in the best way I know how. Turn on a sports game (doesn’t matter what kind, go Hawkeyes), play “It’s 5 o’clock Somewhere” by Allen Jackson and the late Jimmy Buffet, crack a cold one (drink of your choice), and make a toast to one of the greatest women I ever had the opportunity of knowing.
