Betty Lou Warren passed away at home Christmas morning with her family present after a courageous battle with cancer. Betty was born on September 6, 1933 in Richland, IA where she was raised on a farm until the family moved to Des Moines when Betty was twelve. Following high school she married Jim Warren on March 12, 1950 in Des Moines. In the first years of marriage, Betty was a waitress at Eddie Webster's in West Des Moines and in later years at Gigis in Windsor Heights.

Following this she joined her husband in their own construction company.

Betty enjoyed reading, horseback riding and going to Prairie Meadows with her daughters and her best friend, Jane Brown. Betty was a very compassionate, loving person who knew no strangers. She spent her life helping and accepting others. Betty loved animals and there was always a pet in her life.

Betty is survived by Jim, her husband of 54 years; two daughters, Christine Matthews of Des Moines and Terry Lu Warren of West Des Moines; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and her friend, Jane Brown. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Ada Watson; two brothers, Paul Watson and Junior Watson; and her son, Rick Warren who died on February 8, 2004 after his own courageous battle with cancer.

Betty's wishes were to have her body donated to science. In following her wishes her family and friends will celebrate her life with a memorial gathering at her home at 4418 Beavercrest Drive in Beaverdale from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, December 30. Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Central Iowa.

Arrangements by Westover Funeral Home.
