Bill Wagner, 81, passed away at home Monday evening, November 17, 2008. After years of multiple health issues and a final valiant fight against cancer, he is now pain free.

Visitation for Bill, with the family present, will be held Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel, 6337 Hickman Rd. in Des Moines. Funeral services will be 11a.m., Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008 at New Hope United Methodist Church, with Rev. Neil Cross officiating. Private burial will be at Ridgedale Cemetery in Johnston.

Bill was born in Southern Illinois to William N. and Stella (Richardson) Wagner. After losing both of his parents at a young age, he made his home with Ray and Cleone Lake of Iowa Falls, where he graduated in 1945.

Following graduation he joined the Army Air Corps and served two years. In 1952, Bill began working for N.W. Telephone Co., and retired in 1989. A long time resident of Johnston, Bill served on the City Council from 1976-1983. He also served on the City of Johnston Board of Adjustments for an additional 12 years. Bill was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church, where he ushered and served. Bill also belonged to the Johnston Legion Post 728.

He is survived by his wife, "Jane"; his children, Brad, Scott (Angie) and Mary (Jon) Freeman; 5 grandchildren, Dustin, Dylan, Skylar, Cheyenne and Cassidy and many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Edna Drone of Mt. Carmel, IL and twin brother, Franky

Memorials may be made to New Hope United Methodist Church, 4525 Beaver Ave., in Des Moines.
