Billie Buckner Obituary

Billie Shawnette Buckner, 54, passed away on November 15, 2025, in Des Moines, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at Iles Grandview Park Chapel. Family will greet guests at 10:30 a.m. prior to the service.

Billie was born on June 29, 1971, in Des Moines, Iowa, and later moved to Illinois, where she grew up and attended Rock Island High School. Over the years, Billie worked for Qwest and was most recently a customer service representative for Mom’s Meals.

Billie loved to shop, she really loved to shop—and she never hesitated to treat herself to a good spending spree, especially if she had a pile of coupons to go along with it. Music was another joy in her life. As an '80s kid, she adored old-school R&B and loved going to concerts whenever she got the chance. She also made legendary banana pudding; the kind people talked about long after the bowl was empty.

But without a doubt, Billie’s greatest joy was her grandchildren. They were her world. She loved going to their events, cheering them on, and traveling wherever she needed to be just to see them. Being a grandmother was her favorite role of all.

Billie will be remembered for her laughter, her warmth, and the love she brought into every room. She will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her.

Billie is survived by her children: Candace Buckner, Andre Buckner, Chante Buckner, and Davontae Buckner; grandchildren: Andre Buckner Jr, Armani Brown , Aaliyah Buckner, Amirah Young, Melanie Thomas, Averie Buckner, Amiyah Cannon, Ka’ron Deal, Ivory Buckner, Ishmael Buckner, Gabriel Taylor Jr, Zemirra Buckner, Paul Stevenson III, Azari Buckner; and many other loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Billie was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret Irene Buckner; sister, Donita Buckner- Williams; brother, Van Smith; and two grandbabies, Baby Angel Buckner and Amauri Stevenson.
