Obituary

Blythe Charles Conn died on July 4, 2007 at Wesley Acres in Des Moines, Iowa. Memorial services will be 10 a.m., Friday, July 13, 2007 at Wesley Acres Community Room. An additional memorial service will be 1p.m., Saturday, July 14 at the Unitarian Meeting House, Burlington, Iowa. Burial will follow at Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington.

Blythe was born in Burlington, Iowa on May 19, 1908 to Mary Louise Sleeter and John Thomas Conn. He graduated from Burlington High School and went on to earn his B.S. and J.D. degrees from the University of Iowa. He was a member of Alpha Sigma Phi social fraternity and Phi Delta Phi Legal fraternity. He married Gladys Viola Trailer on April 2, 1935 and they lived in Burlington where Blythe was in a private law practice. During his career he also served as the Des Moines County Attorney, a Judge for the Burlington Municipal Court and as the President of the Burlington School Board. He was elected to the Iowa House of Representatives from 1955-57. Blythe was voted Burlington Citizen Number One in 1960. In 1962, he moved with his family, to Des Moines, Iowa where he was the Executive Secretary of the Iowa Association of School Boards until his retirement.

Blythe is preceded in death by his parents, his wife and his son Charles Christopher Conn. He is survived by his daughter, Meredith Conn Watters and her husband, Jeffrey of Scottsdale, AZ and two grandchildren, Christopher Phillip Watters and Elizabeth Erin Watters both of Chicago, IL.
