Bonnie Kelly Obituary

Bonnie Phyllis Kelly, 99, passed away January 20, 2025, in Des Moines, IA. She was born January 13, 1926, in Joice, Iowa to Frank and Emma Helvick.

Visitation will be 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Saturday, January 25, 2025 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Des Moines with a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM and burial to follow the service at Glendale Cemetery. Luncheon will be served following burial.

Bonnie grew up in Forest City, Iowa with her 8 siblings. She graduated from Forest City Schools. On November 14, 1946 she married Francis Kelly. They made their home in Des Moines and raised their 4 children, Mary, Jim, Bob, and Kathy. Bonnie worked for Principal Financial Group for 29 years, prior to her retirement in 1995. In her retirement, she loved to travel and also spent many years volunteering at the Four Mile Senior Center.

Bonnie is survived by three children, Jim Kelly, Bob Kelly, Kathy Medema; son-in-law Dick Heck; ten grandchildren, Dan Heck, Katie Barks, Jeremy (Jill) Kelly, Anna Kelly, Adam Kelly, Kourtney Kelly, Shawn Kelly, Emily (Kory) Matsen, Abby (Jordan) Schuster, Ben Medema; and ten great-grandchildren, Brody, Casey, Charlie, Chloe, Allison, Mia, Mackenzie, Chaz, Konnor, and Liam.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Emma Helvick; her husband Francis Kelly; daughter, Mary Heck; daughter-in-law Sheila Kelly; step-mother Adele; and her 8 siblings, Garmen Helvick, Donovan Helvick, Mavis Burns, Virginia Helvick, Frances Monson, Shirley Johnson, Janice Graham, and Kathryn Lansing.

Bonnie's family would like to thank the nurses, CNA's, and staff of Valley View Village for their care of Bonnie over the last 2 1/2 years.
