Boris Libin Obituary

Boris Libin was born in 1931 in Moscow, Soviet Union. In his childhood he faced the challenges of World War II. Later, inspired by his father, he joined the military and attended the prestigious Military Engineer Academy, eventually serving as a Soviet Army officer. After 13 years of exemplary service, he retired from the military in the rank of Captain.

In his civilian life, Boris worked as a construction engineer in various cities, including Norilsk, Tagil, and Moscow. In 1953, he met the love of his life, Valentina, while exploring the beautiful Caucasus Mountains. Together, they enjoyed a wonderful 70-year journey. After traveling across the USSR for Boris's job, they settled in Moscow, where they raised their two sons, Igor and Alex. Boris also followed his passion for cars and became a celebrated Russian national rally champion!

After the Soviet Union broke apart, Boris and his family made the exciting but life-changing decision to immigrate to the United States. In his new community, Boris quickly became a beloved figure, helping many recent immigrants learn to drive and volunteering with Foster Grandparents to tutor at-risk kids in math and geography for an impressive 17 years.

Boris took great pride in his love for learning and cultural knowledge. He had a deep appreciation for classical music, opera, and theater, and he truly enjoyed engaging conversations. With an endless curiosity, he loved to share his insights with those around him, always ready with a thoughtful book recommendation or an interesting historical story. He remained proudly independent throughout his life.

Boris passed away on November 13, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, Isaac and Ida, and his cherished wife, Valentina. He is lovingly remembered by his children, Igor and Alex, his grandchildren Boris, Sonya, Sanya, and Misha, as well as his great-grandchildren, Eli and Ben.

Борис Либин родился в 1931 году в Москве. Его детство пришлось на тяжелые и голодные годы Второй Мировой Войны. Позже, вдохновленный примером отца, который закончил войну офицером Красной Армии, Борис поступил в престижную Военно-инженерную Академию. После 13 лет образцовой службы он ушел в отставку из армии в звании капитана. В 1953 году во время своего путешествия по Кавказу Борис встретил любовь всей своей жизни, Валентину. Это было начало их 70-летней счастливой семейной жизни.

В гражданской жизни работа инженера-строителя забрасывала Бориса и Валентину в разные уголки Советского Союза, включая Норильск и Тагил. Впоследствии они поселились в Москве, где вырастили двух сыновей, Игоря и Алика.

После распада Советского Союза у Бориса и его семьи появилась возможность иммигрировать в Соединенные Штаты. В своем новом окружении Борис быстро стал любимой фигурой, помогая многим новым иммигрантам учиться водить машину и добровольно работая в программе "Дедушки-наставники", обучая детей из неблагополучных семей математике и географии на протяжении впечатляющих 17 лет.

Борис был прекрасно образованным и культурным человеком. Он глубоко ценил классическую музыку, оперу и театр. С бесконечной жаждой к знаниям, он с удовольствием делился ими с окружающими, всегда был готов предложить интересную книгу или рассказать о каких-нибудь занимательных исторических фактах. Еще в Советском Союзе Борис стал чемпионом России по ралли, и свою любовь к автомобилям он не только пронес через всю свою жизнь, но также привил ее своим детям и внукам.
Он оставался гордым и независимым на протяжении всей своей жизни.

Борис ушел из жизни 13 ноября 2024 года, пережив немногим более года свою любимую жену Валентину. Его с любовью будут помнить его дети Игорь и Алик, внуки Борис, Соня, Саня и Миша, а также правнуки Илай и Веня.
