Brian Lynn Bergerson, 68, passed away January 2, 2020. He was born December 10, 1951 at Sisseton, South Dakota, to Oscar and Hazel Bergerson. He attended Sisseton schools and graduated in 1970. He attended Northern State University and Mount Hood Community College and graduated with a degree in Mortuary Science.

Brian lived in Sioux Falls, Pipestone, Britton, and Clark, before moving to Des Moines in 1988. After 25 years as a funeral director, he changed careers to become an insurance agent.

During his lifetime he was very involved in scouting and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in his youth. Brian, along with his brother, Terry and friends especially enjoyed hunting and fishing and playing organized sports. Golf was especially a passion for the entire family. Brian served on and was president of church councils at three different congregations. As with the rest of the family, they were taught to volunteer and serve their communities. Like his father before him, Brian became very involved in Kiwanis and served as President and lead the Kiwanis city wide Pancake festival in Des Moines.

After seeing the movie, The Bucket List, he always said he accomplished far more things, and met more famous people than he ever dreamed. He never got cheated by a single moment in life. Life was enjoyed and life was well lived. He often said, it wasn't the length of time between the years on the tombstone, it was how you spent the " Dash".

Brian is survived by his special friend, Marquetta Slater; brother, Steve (Lois) Bergerson; sister, Mary (Robert) Sieger; sister-in-law, Eileen Bergerson and six fabulous nieces, nephews and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Terry and his nephew, Keith.

Private family services and burial will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions in memory of Brian, may be directed to the Boy Scouts of America or Ducks Unlimited. Online condolences are welcome at

Brian had to rush through life, because he had a tee time in heaven with Terry.
