Calvin Kite Obituary

Calvin “Dan” Daniel Kite, 71, passed away on December 20, 2023 at his home in Colfax. A visitation will be held at Iles Westover Chapel from 5:00-7:00pm on Thursday, December 28, 2023. Interment will take place at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery on January 3rd, 2024 at 12:30 Pm. When you attend the interment, please drive up to the administration building, park on the left side of the road, and wait for the procession to begin.

Calvin was born in Rock Island, IL to David W. and Betty D. (Mealey) Kite. His family moved to Des Moines, IA, where Calvin spent most of his life. Calvin had three children, and later, he was united in marriage to Kimberly McNeeley on March 10th, 1988. In this union, Calvin gained four more children, by adopting Kimberly’s children.

He spent time in the Army National Guard, and he served in Desert Storm. He was a retired staff sergeant of the 186 Military Police Company. Additionally, he was a retired security officer with the Federal Building. In his free time, Calvin enjoyed fishing, hunting, and both building and tinkering with many different things.

Survivors include Calvin’s wife, Kimberly Kite of Colfax, IA; children Carl Kite of Grimes, IA, Amanda Barth of Newton, IA, Shawn (Tracy) Kite of Des Moines, IA, Robert (Adrienne) Kite Ankeny, IA, William (Candice) Kite of Colfax, IA, and Melisa Kite of Newton, IA; son-in-law, Bo Barth of Des Moines, IA; siblings Russell Kite of California and Carol Henry of Colfax, IA, 13 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren with 1 more on the way; as well as many nieces and nephews and their families. He is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Michael, and seven siblings.
