Obituary

Carla Dee Hopkins, 60, of Norwalk, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly in her home on July 23rd, 2024. A memorial visitation will be held at Iles Norwalk Funeral Home, 1020 Main Street, Norwalk, Iowa 50211, from 4:30-6:30 pm on Wednesday, July 31st, 2024.

Carla was born and raised in Farragut, Iowa. She was the daughter of Russell and Vernice Brink (Herzberg), and the sister of Roger, Brenda, and Lisa. Carla graduated from Farragut High School in 1982, where she excelled in softball, basketball, and was a majorette in the school band. She then attended Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, Iowa, where she received a legal secretary certification.

Following graduation, she accepted a position at Peters Law Firm in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
She continued her legal career at McCormick Law Firm in Omaha, Nebraska, prior to moving to Des Moines, Iowa, where she spent a majority of her career at Hixson & Brown Law Firm. Carla retired in April of 2024.

Carla met her high school sweetheart and love of her life Robert Bradley (Brad) Hopkins in elementary school, later joining in marriage in 1987. In 1989, after Brad accepted a position with the Des Moines Police Department, they moved to Norwalk, Iowa. Together they had three children, Taylor Alyssa, Kyle Robert, and Cole Zachary.

Nothing was more important to Carla than being an exemplary wife, mother, and friend; to know her was to love her. She dedicated her life to her family and meeting their every need, including countless hours spent at sporting and other school events. In addition to caring for her family, Carla was an avid animal lover her entire life. She tirelessly dedicated years of her later life to volunteering at several dog rescues, including Forever Home Dog Rescue, of which she was a co-founder. The rescue’s relentless efforts and determination helped hundreds of dogs find their “forever homes”.

She is survived by her husband, Brad, three children, Taylor, Kyle, Cole, her parents Russell and Vernice, siblings Roger (Sherrie), Brenda (Curtis), and Lisa (David), her mother in Law Caroline Hopkins, her brother in law Brent (Terri) Hopkins and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father in law, Robert Hopkins.

No obstacle was too great for Carla to overcome to ensure the happiness and care of others. She will forever be remembered and loved for her infectious sense of humor, kind heart, and selfless generosity.

Memorial contributions and remembrances may be directed to Forever Home Dog Rescue through their website (www.foreverhomedogs.org)
