She is survived by sons Thomas A. (Laura), John R. (Sally), and James P. (Carolyn) Evans, six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

Born in Butte, Montana January 17, 1918, Katie and her family returned to Iowa in time for her to start school in Des Moines public schools — Riley Elementary, Roosevelt Junior High School and Roosevelt Senior High School — graduating as Salutatorian in 1934, two years ahead of her class. She graduated from Grinnell College in 1938. Katie and Dayl were married in Knoxville, Iowa in August 1940. The newlyweds drove his parents to their home in Linn Grove, Iowa before honeymooning on Lake Okoboji.

Katie and Dayl lived in several Iowa communities, principally Cedar Falls and Spencer, before moving to Des Moines in 1963. A homemaker busy raising a family, she was an active alumna of Grinnell College and active in the League of Women Voters, P.E.O., AAUW and churches in each of their Iowa communities. In Des Moines Katie and Dayl were members of Plymouth Church and sang in its Chancel Choir. In later years she helped produce the P.E.O. Record, working at P.E.O. International’s headquarters in Des Moines.
