My Mother, Charlene Ann Lowe, 66, of East Des Moines, IA and formerly of San Jose, CA, passed away June 23, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center.

She was born in Des Moines June 20, 1944, at Mercy Hospital to the late Charles and Vivian Knapp. She was raised on the East side, and graduated from East High School Class of '62. She then went on to Flight attendant school in Minneapolis, MN before moving to San Jose, and lived in the bay area to be near her sister and best friend Susan Mitchell (now Ayers) and family.

On June 24, 1974, she gave birth to me, her only son and the pride and joy of her life. In 1982 she and I moved back to her roots here in Des Moines, where she continued her work raising me.

On Christmas day, 1989, she married the newest love in her life Michael David Lowe. For the next 20 years, they lived and made their home on the East side growing as a family, helping raise their grandchildren, and bringing joy to their friends and family until her journey's end last week.

My mother loved the simple life; she loved the sounds of the ocean and sunshine of California. She loved to spoil her family dog with jelly beans, and was a loving owner of more cats than I can remember. Later in life she loved to accompany her husband on the golf course, to feel the warmth of the sun and the touch of summer's breeze. She was always more concerned with the welfare and wellbeing of those around her, yet I never could get her away from all those silly rerun shows of 'I love Lucy' and 'All in the Family' on the TVLAND channel.

Charlene "Charlie" Lowe is survived by her Husband Michael of East Des Moines, her Son Michael, his wife Angel, and grandchildren Jackson and Julian, Sister Susan Ayers, Nephew Mark Mitchell, Niece Lisa Galvin and her husband George, with daughters Lubya and Kristina, Sister-in-law JoAnn Bieber and her sons Phillip, Danny, and John of Cherokee, IA, and Sister-in-law Debbie and Rick Murks of Loretto, TN.

Visitation will be held from 5-7pm Monday evening at Iles Funeral Homes-Grandview Park Chapel with memorial services 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Graveside Services will be held at Glendale Cemetery shortly thereafter.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa in her name.
