Cheryl Kammeyer, 69, went to her eternal home Wednesday, March 28, 2007 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be held 10 am Saturday, March 31, 2007 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Urbandale. Graveside services will be held 3:30pm Saturday at Grace Lutheran Cemetery near Tripoli, Iowa.

Cheryl enjoyed gardening, reading, doing puzzles, dining out with friends, and the Iowa Hawkeyes. She spent much of her career in the mortgage business but her passion was the role she played as Grandma to ten wonderful grandchildren. Grandma Cheryl spent most of her time either attending their events, following their progress, or just hanging out with them. She was unwavering in her support of them. She loved to spend time with them and they loved to spend time with her. She was proud of everything they accomplished and made sure to tell them that. She now has the best seat in the house for all of the events yet to come.

Her easy going nature and willingness to listen without judging will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She helped so many people in so many ways and never wanted to be recognized for that. Her legacy will live on through the lives she touched with her kindness, her smile and her positive attitude regardless of the situation.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd, her parents, Wayne and Kathryn (Panzer) Colburn and her brother Gene. She is survived by her daughter, Julie (Tony) Nielsen of Humboldt and their children, Natalie, Tyler, Nicholas and Tony, son, Steve (Julie) Kammeyer of Urbandale and their children Grace and Evie, and son, Bruce (Amy) Kammeyer of Tripoli and their children Zach, Austin, Reece and Riley, two sisters, Jenny (Bob) Johnson of Polk City and Kris (Merle) Kuhns of North Liberty and two sisters-in-law, Norma Colburn (wife of Gene) of Nevada, Iowa and Arvella (Darold) Pipho of Waverly.

Visitation begins after 4 pm Friday at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bernie Lorenz House or Mercy Hospice in Johnston.
