Obituary

Cynthia Lou Cooper (Baker), age 76, passed away on April 17, 2025, in Des Moines, Iowa. Born on August 4, 1948, in Ottumwa, Iowa, Cynthia lived a life marked by deep faith and devotion in Jesus Christ.

Cynthia was the beloved daughter of Forest and Betty Baker, who raised her in the nurturing community of Wesley Methodist Church in Ottumwa. It was there that she was baptized as an infant and introduced to the Christian faith—a foundation that would shape her entire life. As she grew older, Cynthia made her own profession of faith and became a devoted follower of Jesus Christ. Her greatest desire was to see others come to know the gospel and experience salvation and be saved from Gods wrath on sinners by grace through faith in Jesus.

Cynthia was a graduate of Ottumwa High School in 1966 and loved to cheer on the Bulldogs all the days of her life.

In June of 1975 Cindy was married to Victor Cooper. They had 2 children together Jessica and Susan.

Cindy’s worked as a bank teller for many years to support her family. After she retired, she went and worked part -time at Adventureland and made lots and lots of life long friends.

Cynthia was a kind and friendly person to all people. She loved to bake and give a way her baked goods. She was always excited about a good potluck meal, and loved to gather with friends and family. She was very involved at her church East Side Church of the Nazarene, where she sang in the choir, helped in the kitchen and many other ways. Cindy was a very involved grandma in her grandchildren’s lives and helped raise them.

Cynthia’s legacy continues through her loving family. She is remembered with affection by her daughters Jessica Sifuentes of Altoona, IA and Susan Voll (Jeff) of Bondurant, IA as well as her sister Laura Daiz of Sherman, Texas brothers David Baker (Kelly) of Davenport, Iowa, and Robert Baker of Des Moines, Iowa, her aunt Lola Ivins of Albia, IA along with her nephews, nieces and many cousins. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren who will carry forward her memory.
