Cora Norris Obituary

Cora Catherine Norris, 102, died November 13, 2024 in Johnston, Iowa. She was born December 26, 1921 in Estherville, Iowa to Joseph and Cora Catherine (Lawson) Costello.

After graduating high school Cora joined the military during WWII. She was in the W.A.S.P. meaning Women’s Air Service Patrol. She and other women would fly newly made airplanes for the military to the military base destinations all over the United States.

Cora worked as an editor for the Meredith Publishing Company for over 50 years. She enjoyed playing golf, and flying open cockpit planes that she would rent and take her daughter, Cathy all over Des Moines area and Iowa. She loved animals, especially horses and she always attended the horse shows where her daughter, Cathy competed in. Later she volunteered at Mercy Hospital Gift Shop.

Cora is survived by her daughter, Cathy (Robert) Mills; cousins, Peggy Kenoyer and Sandy Raney. She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Cora Costello.
